Ever since their creation after World War II, Choppers have been something of a novelty item. Soldiers who decided to chop off the various unwanted parts of their Harleys and Indians made the first of these classic bikes. This was done to make the bikes lightweight and eye-catching.

Over the years, the concept of choppers evolved. Today, choppers are not merely made by removing parts from the original bike. Choppers now involve more customizing than removal of parts. These machines are supposed to manifest their owner's character and individuality and hence no two custom choppers will be alike. Earlier, individuals made choppers in their own backyard. Soon professional designers emerged into the scene, making the job a more professional one. Arlen Ness was one of the first designers to customize a chopper bike.

Custom choppers, as the term suggests, vary from user to user. Each individual has his own concept of a dream bike and designs his vehicle accordingly. Customizing the chopper is not restricted to just the body paint and graphics. Each individual part of the vehicle can be altered according to a users need. The most common method of customizing a chopper is to change the handlebars, fuel tank and wheels. There are several variations within these categories and so the owner has a wide choice when it comes to picking the part. Moreover, several manufacturers make customized parts for die-hard motorcycle enthusiasts. Although these may come at an expensive price tag, these parts will guarantee that the bike is as unique and exclusive as it can get.

These hand-made motorcycles are some of the most desirable vehicles one can find. For those who are customizing their vehicle without professional guidance, care should be taken that the various parts are compatible with one another. Setting together a custom chopper might require time, attention and money, but once complete, they promise to be a stunning pair of wheels.
