Capoeira Culture meets Progressive Trance
by bur p659
Capoeira is a game of Brazilian origin and a form of dance and martial art that is today played throughout the world. Capoeira is a group phenomenon, performed in circle called a roda and traditional instruments are played alongside folk songs as the players engage in an acrobatic fight.
The phenomenon originates from the late 1500's in Brazil with earlier roots in various West African cultures and is believed to have been created as a way of "fighting without fighting", similar to how breakdancing developed in Manhattan and the South Bronx in the early 1970s.
Traditional instruments include the berimbau - a musical bow, a pandiero - the Brazilian equivalent of a tambourine, the agogo, a traditional Guiro called a reco-reco and a conga drum.
The sound of the instruments is tribal and trance inducing, which gives rhythmic cues to the Capoeira players.
Inspired by Capoeira sounds as well as house and trance music, Early Reflection Recordings artist, Perfecctionista is currently producing a single, aptly called: Capoeira - Perfecctionista which will be released next month on Early Reflection Recordings.
The new single blends progressive trance structures with traditional Capoeira instruments to create an unforgettable and energetic ride through Brazilian Capoeira culture on a trance orientated dancefloor.
