Singing Lessons Online - How to Find Them and Become a Great Singer
by Timo Karp
With the advent of the popular TV formats such as American Idol, America's Got Talent and other local variations, it seems as if learning to sing is slowly becoming a popular pastime again. Of course, it's not only about the chance of achieving stardom. No, the real reasons for the new wave of enthusiastic beginners that finally want to learn singing are much simpler - because singing is a lot of fun. Now, the internet can be a great place to find information on finding the right resources to pick up this hobby. There are many websites that promise free singing lessons online - but can they really deliver? That's what I asked myself, and I took a look at a few places offering singing lessons on the web.
And I was successful of course! Because singing is not a highly technical process as, for example, playing actual musical instruments, there are lots of pages and articles that tell a complete beginner how to approach singing - it's really not that hard! However, the problem that I did have was that many of the websites offering singing lessons online were more concerned with teaching particular aspects - for example, how to avoid strained vocal chords, how to lose tension and so on. That's great and helpful, but many beginners - like me - are rather looking for the groundwork before delving into the details. To tell you a bit about me, personally, the main problem I have is that I don't seem to have the natural and inherent ability to sing without ever having to had lessons. I would just keep hitting the wrong notes!
In such cases, it can be a bit frustrating to find the correct destination for a complete package that really gets you off the ground from the very beginning. There's a reason why so many people rely on personal 1-on-1 lessons: A great private teacher can make a great difference when you're just starting out with singing. My conclusion is - there are many singing lessons online out there, it's just that most of them cater to intermediate to experienced singers.
However, during my research I did find an interesting location that deals with this issue. It has helped me, and maybe it will help you singing newbies out there as well - just check out the resource box!
