As more and more people find the need to filter their drinking water, there are lots of options when it comes to reliable water filters. There are different types of water filters available today. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages over the others. One is the reverse osmosis water filter.
Reverse osmosis water filter is a complete system that includes a prefilter and a postfilter. This system strips out arsenic, lead, coppercadmium, chlorine, giardia, pesticides, salt, sulfates, cysts, trihalomethanes and nitrates. It uses a fine membrane to filter through a process called osmosis.
This type of water filter is considered an under the sink water filter because it stops nearly every contaminant that tries to enter your cold-water line. It comes in a variety of models but most units force water first through a prefilter that is flashlight size. This prefilter then strains out sediments and the fine membrane screens out even smaller contaminants. From this prefilter, the water then goes through a postfilter which is a carbon filter. This postfilter removes any remaining checmicals that are picked along the process.
Just like any other type of water filters, reverse osmosis water filters have their pros and cons. The advantage of these is that they can create a barrier that few contaminants can penetrate without the use of any electricity. The disadvantage, however, is that they waste two to four gallons of tap water for a gallon that has been filtered.
So, if you want your water to be filtered, you can try these reverse osmosis water filters and see if these suit you. They are very easy to install and do not cost much compared to other types of water filters. Just keep in mind to replace the membrane of these filters every two to three years.
