A tank is a container used for holding, transporting, or storing liquids or gases. Depending on the function and the nature of the enclosed substance, tanks are known by different names, such as water tanks, fish tanks, gas tanks, and septic tanks.
Water tanks are designed to hold fresh water and they may be portable or fixed. Fish tanks (aquariums), often for public display, are the clear-sided containers filled with water for keeping live fish, and sometimes invertebrates, amphibians, marine mammals and reptiles. These are typically constructed of glass or high-strength plastic. Gas tanks, gasoline tanks or gas holders are large gas-tight spherical or cylindrical tanks for holding gasoline. Septic tanks are sewage-disposal tanks in which anaerobic bacteria decompose a continuous flow of waste material.
The dunk tank is a major attraction in carnivals, fundraisers, and personal parties. The tank arrangement includes a seat above a tank of water and a target. This is actually a game tank, which requires two people, a dunkee who sits on the seat above the tank of water, and a dunker who tries to hit the target with softballs or tennis balls. When the dunker wins by hitting the object, the seat will flip downwards and the dunkee drops into the tank of water.
Quick tanks, which are temporary liquid storage tanks, feature fast assembly, non-corrosive material, and compact storage and carrying case. Some tanks come in pillow shapes, which are usually collapsible storage containers. They provide temporary as well as long term liquid storage. Pillow tanks are mainly used for portable (drinking) water, fruit juices, wastewater, chemicals and oils.
A tank container (container-freight) is used for the transportation of a broad range of liquid cargoes. The chief users of these containers include large international food, beverage and chemical companies.
