What's at the height of fashion in terms of footwear? Believe it or not,'ballet flats! Turns out they're not all that flat after all. Okay, okay, we'll stop. We just couldn't resist. You might be well-heeled, but the flats'trend will give your arches a break. Cute and comfortable, it's rare that a woman doesn't have a pair of flats. After all, they're versatile, too ' wear them on casual Friday or the weekend, or wear dressy ones with a party dress or slacks for night or at work. Even if you didn't do too well in ballet, ladies, now you can pull off a'ballet flat. Just pick a category below, and go!
Bright Colors. Fall is right around the corner, and'even though darker colors are in, it doesn't mean you can't wear them brightly, especially on your feet. Reds, violets, deep blues and dark greens - all colors that'Report'carries in its flat shoes - can all be pulled off with black or neutral outfits. Or, wear another stand-out piece as bright as your flats! Keep it to a maximum of two bright things though ' like flats and a handbag ' or you might blind people.
Printed Flats.'Printed flat shoes are one of the hottest styles this season. They're a great 'look-at-me!' accessory that brightens any outfit, no matter where you're going. Look for ultra-feminine florals, bright geometric patterns, and everyone's favorite, animal prints. Try a pair of printed'ballet flats'on for size (Jessica Simpson and Steve Madden have great selections) with tights and a gray sheath to make your workday more fun and fashionable.
Embellished Flats. We're not going to lie ' embellished flats are flat-out fabulous (sorry, sorry...we couldn't resist that one!). Whenever an occasion calls for dressing up, women almost always reach for their heels ' and are perfectly miserable and in pain by the end of the night. Next time, try wearing embellished flats out. The embellishment, whether it's jewels, rhinestones or bows, (like several'Marc Jacobs'flats have) makes them dressy and fun, and perfectly appropriate for a dressy occasion. People might look at you twice, but it won't be because your flats aren't dressy enough ' it will be because they're jealous.
Open-toed Flats.'Play peekaboo with your well-manicured toes in a pair of chic, comfortable, open-toed flats. Bright-colored ones punch up a gray jumper or black slacks for work. 'Cole Haan'has several conservative open-toed flats are a great update on last year's ballet flat trend, and offer the same comfort and femininity with a touch of sexiness. Try wearing them with a knee-length skirt, tights and a sweater or even with jeans ' the look is reminiscent of 1950s couture, but they're a great way to dress up just about anything.
