Underwear
by Alison Cole
Underwear is worn on the body, beneath one's outer clothing. People should have at least one pair of underwear for each day of the week, if not more. Underwear should be changed each time the person takes a shower. Wearing and changing underwear allows garments to be worn a few times before it is sent to the laundry.
In addition to preventing clothes from getting dirty, underwear is worn for warmth, comfort, and hygiene. Fancy underwear is used for erotic purposes. Such underwear is worn simply to showcase the wearer's body in an attractive light. Underwear can also have religious significance; followers of the LDS Church who have undertaken the endowment ritual are required to always wear special white underwear with Masonic markings, as they believe that it protects them from physical harm and from Satan.
Purchasing underwear depends on the wearer's preference of material and style, in addition to the weather conditions. It is advisable to purchase cotton underwear, as cotton does not irritate the skin. If a person prefers to wear underwear made of Lycra, satin, or any other fabric, the crotch should be made of cotton.
An individual should have a few long underwear sets if the region he or she resides in experiences harsh winters. Underwear made of thermal or wool materials are preferred, although silk and cashmere are luxurious options. The material of long underwear sets should be chosen based on how warm the underwear needs to be and what type of material the person likes against his or her skin.
