2006 Honda Civic Hybrid - What a Car!
by Ryan Finney
As with all other Civic models, the Hybrid has been completely redesigned from the inside out for 2006. Not only did Honda change the interior and exterior of the Hybrid, but they also changed to the powertrain system. Now the electric motor can run independent from the gas motor under certain circumstances. Also, the CV automatic transmission has been revamped to perform more like a 5 speed tranny.
All this increases the Civic Hybrid's fuel economy to an astonishing 50 mpg. Safety and reliability are what you would expect from any Honda vehicle. Standard options for the Hybrid are on par with the top of the line Civic, the EX model. The only factory option on the Hybrid seems to be the navigation system. The Hybrid does give new meaning to putting the pedal to the metal. The new accelerator design requires drivers to step on the pedal much more than they might be used to.
The Hybrid Civic performs well on the road. Acceleration is on par with the normal gas only models. It can comfortable seat 4 adults on even long car trips. One of the biggest factors people might find in choosing the Hybrid is the emissions advantage. The Hybrid qualifies as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. This means California residents can drive the Hybrid in the car pool lane even if they are the only occupant.
