Cleanliness is primarily an instinct that nature has bestowed on all living beings. Biologists point out a cat's licking itself dry as an indication of this instinct. Civilization has helped accentuate this instinct in mankind and taken it to a new level of doing it consciously.
Keeping clean is a pivotal part of our daily activities; as we wash our hands, take a shower, clean our homes or wash our clothes. Cleaning, a term synonymous with hygiene is of prime importance to every human being and animal alike. The purpose of cleaning is to avoid spreading contamination. Washing with water along with a soap or detergent is the most common method of cleaning, be it for our bodies or the hundreds of articles we use in our daily lives. We find our thought processes working better when we are clean in both mind and body. Keeping our surroundings clean is also imperative for a better existence. The commonly used phrase "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", provides an impetus to keep our surroundings and us clean.
Diseases spread fast in places devoid of cleanliness, thereby having an adverse impact on the environment. Cleanliness is an important part of sound living.
There are obviously times when our houses would be less clean than at other times. However, regular cleaning schedules without procrastination and involving the entire family makes cleaning quite an easy task. A small spill could be dealt with in fifteen seconds, with a damp paper towel, instead of just leaving it. Every time you switch on the television, one wipe with a duster can get rid of the dirt. Taking three to five minutes each evening to pick up any mess in the family room and waking up the next morning to a clean and tidy room, is refreshing, satisfying and well worth the time spent.
The art of cleaning is today a specialized profession that takes a holistic view of our need for hygiene in specific facets of our lives and provides solution for each such need.
