A ceiling fan can be a great choice for acclimatizing an environment, especially when the space is reduced, but installing it can be difficult and tricky. If you have a ceiling fan that brings instructions for you to install it yourself, you should make sure of following each step as specified as well as take into account some important tips as the ones we will try to provide in the next lines.

Before you decide installing a fan yourself, make sure you count with everything you need to do it as well as that you are capable of achieving it without any risks, if you are not sure how to do it you should hire a professional. You should also find the right place where the ceiling fan will be located, it should be placed towards the centre of the room, where the light fixture is and replacing it, or any area where that fixture could be but also where the fun can provide a good air flow.

Also, before installing the fan, you should make sure it will be placed at the right height. The minimum height recommended for the fan is of 7', and the distance between the fan and the ceiling should be of at least 12". Once you have located the right spot for the fan, you should turn the power off in order to be able to start installing it.

Once you are sure the power is off at the main electrical box of the house or at least of the fixture in which you will work, take the old light fixture down, and if possible use a high voltage neon tester to be sure there is not power before touching any wires. Once you are absolutely sure it is safe to touch the wires, make sure the electrical box where the light fixture was is firm and strong enough for the weight of the fan.

Follow all the electrical indications detailed in the fan's guide book, do not miss any step it might indicate since this could end up in not only technical problems but serious injuries as well. Place the fan in the light fixture hole and follow the specific instructions for assembling it. Different fans usually have different assembly instructions, and therefore you should read these in detail and do exactly what is specified.
