How to set up an extension ladder

If you are careful, then you'll be able to set up and use an extension ladder simply and easily. There are a few things that you definitely need to keep in mind, however. For one thing, the longer a ladder gets, the more dangerous it is to use. Therefore, on the really long ladders, you should make sure that you exercise extra caution. Not only is the fall longer from these ladders, but it is also harder to stabilize them when there is somebody moving around at the top.

The first thing that you need to keep in mind is that you should only use a safe and new extension ladder. If you have any questions about whether or not the ladder you're thinking about using is safe enough for use, or still in good quality, then you should find another ladder to use. Some things to watch out for include bent rungs, bent sides, rust, or missing rubber feet on the bottom. There needs to be something to provide traction in order to make sure that the ladder will stay where you've put it.

You also need to make sure that the ladder is at a good angle to make sure that you'll be safe while on it. The best way to do this is to test the ladder after you've put it up. A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to stand on the bottom rung, and hold your arms out straight to touch the rung at shoulder level with your full hands.

This is especially the case if you do not have someone present to help hold the ladder, but you should always make sure that the feet are secured. There are a few things you can do. One option is to put in boards or other objects that can hold the feet in place. Make sure that these will actually be able to hold the ladder upright before you put them in the way, though! You can also tie the ladder so that it will stay where it is.

You can also purchase ladder stabilizers to go on the top of the ladder and hold it in place for you.

Finally, with an extension ladder, you need to make sure that the ladder has been locked into its extended position before you walk on it or set it up. In fact, this is the first thing that you should test. Make sure that the ladder stays extended even under stress before you start using it for any jobs.
