Ceramic tiles are growing in popularity as a popular flooring option around the world. In addition to being durable and decorative, these tiles are resistant to scratches, fading, staining and slipping. All these factors make ceramic tiles a viable option for any type of flooring.
Installing ceramic tiles is not difficult. Anyone with the right equipment, an installation guide from the manufacturer, patience and perseverance will be able to install his own ceramic tiles.
Before starting the installation process, one needs to check for a few basic requirements. Without a manufacturer's manual, one will be lost before even beginning the process. Certain basic equipments are needed for installing ceramic tiles. A tape measure, hammer, dust mask, safety glasses, a tile cutter and a marking pencil are just a few of the important requirements before embarking on the tile installation task.
After collecting the necessary equipment, the next step is to clear out the room to be tiled of all furniture, fittings and fixtures that might hamper the installation process. Next, prepare the surface for the tiles to be installed. This could be considered the most important step in installing the ceramic tiles. The surface whether a floor or a wall should be even and void of any dust and debris. Once the surface has been made ready, the next step is to lay the tiles to get an idea how they will spread out. Some of the tiles may need cutting to fit in against the edge of the surface area. After all these arrangements are done, the adhesive or mortar that is best suited for the application is spread on the floor surface. It is essential spread the mortar evenly with a trowel and then place the tiles on the floor. The tiles can be leveled with a hammer before allowing it to settle for 24-48 hours. The final step in installing ceramic tiles is filling the gaps between the tiles with grout.
Once the grout has settled, the tiles have to be cleaned with a wet sponge. Following the above steps in a precise and careful manner will result in having the perfect floor!
