"Home Sales ARE Steamin' and Singles ARE Dreamin'"
by Hanne Andersen
out that wish-list - buying a home 'could' be in your future.
So, you've caught the 'I want to buy a home' bug!
But what if ...?? And then what about ...??
Out come the little voices 'trying' to give you all
the reasons why you can't or shouldn't buy a home.
Rest assured, Single homebuyers are increasing in
numbers ... with 'Single-Moms as one of the fastest-
emerging new group of house buyers' (as cited by
Judy Rose in the Free Real Estate Writer - good
article to read
http://www.freep.com/realestate/renews/newbuy1_20021201.htm)
Buying a home can seem somewhat daunting and a
big risk ... yet let's take a look at the 'positives'
of owning your OWN home. Firstly, it's yours ...
and you can use it to make a statement of 'who YOU
are'! Making your house your HOME is one of the
most rewarding tasks that I've ever experienced.
It's probably the largest investment you will make,
and it most likely will increase in value. Pretty
much every other large investment decreases in value,
unless of course it's a 'collectible' item. Just for
example, once you purchase a car ... it decreases as
soon as you drive it off the lot! Investing in a
home is 'smart' investing for your future.
Wondering how much 'house' you can afford? There
are resources and grants available for Single home
buyers. In the USA, there is the HUD program (U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development) which
has some great information available on their site
and you could apply online - http://www.hud.gov/
In Canada, check out the CMHC's Assisted Housing
(Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation) at:
http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/index.cfm
or if you are a Senior there is Senior Citizens
Assistance Program - SCAP at:
http://www.gov.ns.ca/coms/hous/programs/seniors.stm
In other countries locate your government web site
and see what they offer.
Most banking or financial web sites offer mortgage
calculators as well as rent vs. buying tools. Here
are a few links to assist you (if the links are
broken try copy and paste them into your browser):
In the USA ...
Buy vs. Rent Tool
http://www.bankofamerica.com/financialtools/index.cfm?view=planning&calcid=home10
Financial Tools and Calculators
http://www.bankofamerica.com/financialtools/index.cfm?view=planning&calcid=hub
In Canada ...
Buy vs. Rent
http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/bureho/index.cfm
Financial Tools and Calculators
http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/calculator/mortgage_calce.cfm
Again, look up your local financial or banking web site.
New York Attorney, Charles J Fisher Esq. has some very
valuable, step-by-step information on purchasing your
home at: http://www.buying-a-home.ws/ It's important to
know your rights, and that you DO have a right to a home!
Now it's time to make up your wish-list!
Buying a home of your own could be in YOUR future.
