understanding marketing and increasing sales in the process

The small business owner who succeeds is the person who understands what true marketing is all about.

Marketing is not just having a printed marketing brochure explaining to people what your business does and how it can help them. Marketing is also not only about sending people postcards in the mail, or even writing a booklet about the various details of what goes into your job.

True marketing goes beyond just color printing or just advertisements to the way you present yourself in nearly every aspect of life, even if it is supposed to be your day off.

Your marketing should never take a day off, and you should never forget that if you really want to get ahead, you should be aware of all the marketing potential in everyday life.

Now, this does not mean you have to always be out there yelling at people to come in and give you business, but it does mean that you should make sure to have your eyes and ears open no matter where you go.

You simply cannot tell when a business lead is going to develop, or when a friendly conversation with a stranger turns into a great future client.

There are certain things you can do to always be prepared for when those moments happen, and the first and most important thing is business cards. Never, and I mean never, be without a business card. This is probably the single most important aspect of the daily marketing you could do.

And really, business card printing should already be on your list of color printing to take care of, so it should not be a big deal to have plenty on you at all times. If it looks at all like someone might be interested you want to have that card ready to hand them at a moments notice.

But you can go beyond just that when it comes to the daily marketing techniques. Why not slip a business card into the envelope when paying your bills each month? Hook one to your receipt when you are at a restaurant. Put one on a bulletin board at the various places you go to hang out and relax.

Try to add a message into your voicemail that promotes your business, so that every time someone leaves a message they will hear about your business. Get a little more unique and have some t-shirts made with your company logo printed on them.

Each person is going to have different details specific to their life where marketing would be very helpful, and only you are going to know exactly how to best implement some of these marketing styles.

My point is to get you thinking about what possibilities are out there for you. Expand your understanding of what marketing is, and start to increase your sales while you are at it.
