This tennis event is held over two weeks between mid May and early June in the city of Paris, France and is the second of the Grand Slam tournaments on the annual tennis calendar.
The French Open opened to international competitors in 1925 with the event held between the Racing Club de France and the Stade Francais. And in 1981 it became national event.
In 1928 a new tennis stadium was built at Porte d'Auteuil to hold the Davis Cup. The stadium was named the new Stade Roland Garros and Court Philippe Chatrier to honor a World War I hero. This place has seen the best tennis players win incredible championships like the ones from Pete Sampras, and Roger Federer who won the Grand Slam several times but never the French Open.
As of 2006, 13 of the last 17 French's Open men's singles championships were won by men who did not win any other Grand Slam event. On the other hand, the French Open has helped female players as Lindsay Davenport to add to their careers on the Grand Slam tournament.
