What are baby scales used for? Baby scales can be used for not only measuring the breast milk, but also the weight of the baby.
There are various digital baby scales available in the market. For instance, Medela or Tanita are some of the most popular digital baby scales that can be used to measure the baby's weight both before and after breast-feeding it.
These digital scales help you find out about your baby's health, and whether it needs to be taken to a doctor. For instance, if there is no change in the baby's weight, it could indicate that the baby is seriously ill.
Is it appropriate, if your baby's weight increases? What does it indicate if your baby loses a lot of weight? How much milk should you feed the baby? Are you giving the baby the necessary nutrients in the right quantity?
If your baby's weight increases too much, it could mean that the amount of milk that the baby has been fed is improper. On the other hand, a decrease in the baby's weight could indicate that you have fed the baby less milk than necessary.
The yardstick for telling healthy babies is that healthy babies usually double their weight by the age of four or five. You need to consult your doctor to find out how much milk the baby needs. The digital baby scales used by your doctor could be much different from what you are using, as they make use of specially designed scales.
Your doctor would also be able to tell you whether a health problem with the baby is natural, or due to overfeeding or underfeeding.
