The red-hot topic about international public health at present is nothing but the spread of H1NI flu, whose outbreak was seen firstly in the USA and Mexico between the end of March and the middle of April. Up to June 15th, about 163 people have died from this influenza according to the report of WHO, and 35928 confirmed cases around the globe were verified by WHO. WHO has declared the coming of influenza pandemic after raising the alert level to 6; it also said this has become the first pandemic since mankind moved into the 21st century.
There is an old saying "prevention is better than cure". In this society of advanced civilization, people are more concerned about their own health and public health level is rising increasingly, but people's connection is becoming closer and closer too as the internationalized communication develops at a faster pace, which has created more opportunities for us to contact. So it is not difficult to understand that the route of disease transmission is widening, which just explains why the transmission speed of this disease is so fast. In that case, prevention is bulking large. Various governments are taking effective measures to control its spread and minimize the effect that might bring to the whole world. Once someone is found to be symptomatic of H1NI flu like being in a high fever or having a cough, general malaise, etc, then people who once had close contact with him or her would be put in quarantine.
As a citizen, it is our responsibility to fight against H1NI flu and people are already more aware of this. One of my neighbors' son, Jack (ten years old now), bought a wristband at http://www.ybuw.com/Wristbands/Customwristbands.asp and wrote "fight the H1NI flu" on it. Wherever he goes to neighbor's house, he always flaunts this wristband, reading those words playfully. I once asked him "are you a volunteer? "No, I like this wristband and Lance Armstrong is my idol. He was once a cancer sufferer. I also have a Livestrong Wristband and I do not want more people to suffer from any diseases anymore." He said seriously, in a mature tone that does not seem to match his age.
