Bathrooms have to be just as comfortable, functional and good looking as the rest of the house. Hygiene and sanitation are also important aspects apart from making the bathroom look warm and inviting. Bathroom remodeling can be because of many reasons: as a part of fixing a major problem; as a part of revamping the whole house; for special reasons like fitting in a child's bath tub or an adult's wheelchair; for altering the size or the shape of the room; for including additional gadgets like: showers, tubs, water supply systems, counters, cabinets, bars, shower walls and so on. With the availability of several accessories and fixtures, bathroom remodeling has become very easy and interesting.
Bathroom remodeling calls for several safety precautions. If the remodeling involves tearing down of the whole bathroom, the area nearby should be covered with builder's paper to protect it from abrasion and dirt. Measurements have to be carefully noted so that all the fittings go into their proper places. The main water and power supply should be turned off before the fittings like the sink and toilet are dismantled. However, it is better to use the existing power and water systems as new pipes and systems cost and lot and also need a lot of extra effort.
There are several things to be taken into consideration while remodeling bathrooms. The bathroom door should swing freely away from the fixtures. The fixtures should be placed so that two people can comfortably use the bathroom simultaneously. The water closet and the bidet should be placed so that they are not visible from outside the bathroom door. Electrical switches should be placed away from the shower or tub. Safety glazing can be used on the glass for shower doors. There should be ample space in the bathroom for keeping accessories like linens, paper products, toiletries and other useful products. The floor should be non-slippery and grab-bars can be placed near the tub and the shower to ensure safety. On the whole, the new bathroom should be better looking as well as more functional as compared to the old one, as bathroom remodeling is a very rare investment.
