High Noon for Saddam: America is at War

It is time for Saddam to be judged on his brutal behavior over the last three decades. To the chagrin of the Democrats and the French, the Americans and British will get the job done. On Monday evening President Bush declared the 12-year wait for Iraqi compliance to disarm is all but over. Dramatically, Mr. Bush stated it is high noon. And the message was crystal-clear; the villain will leave Dodge City in 48 hours, or face the consequences. To the chagrin of Frenchmen, Chinese, Russians, Islamist-fascists, and of course, liberals everywhere, there will be no more empty talk. Instead there will finally be action, either in the form of Saddam and his two homicidal thug sons leaving Iraq within 48 hours of the President's ultimatum, or the United States, Britain and the "coalition of willing" nations will finish the job. As of this writing, high noon has arrived, Saddam has not blinked, and our nation is now at war.
Old Europe and American liberals have often called President Bush a "cowboy" lacking the intellectual enlightenment to handle the complexities of the modern world. When they use the "cowboy" label, the left's intentions are to mock and belittle him. These leftists and appeasers claim that Mr. Bush just doesn't understand the realities of international diplomacy. Instead, they see "W" as a man lacking in ability to think rationally, kicking up a posse to hunt down the villains instead of pursuing the matter legally with the town magistrate or judge. In the left's eyes, it is nothing but the "Texas Cowboy Sheriff" stirring up a gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
I can agree with these lefty types in working with the judge, as long as the judge actually does his job. In the Old West, the judge usually had a reputation for zero tolerance with villains, murderers, rapists, thieves and cattle rustlers. Usually, these judges wasted no time in enforcing the law by dispensing swift justice to the convicted villain brought before him by the town sheriff. Justice usually meant the gallows or at least fit the crime.
If the judge in today's crises, the United Nations, would actually behave like a true Old West judge and enforce it's own mandate, it might gain a reputation of respect from tyrants the world over. They would not second guess and humiliate the organization. But the U.N. magistrate cannot, or lacks the will, to enforce its rightful mandate based on its victory in the Gulf War over 12 years ago. The U.N. happily plays the role of the aloof saloonkeeper, acting like a bleeding, inadequate and appeasing buffoon it has really become. It would make sense to work further with a U.N. serious about enforcing the law, however, this is not the case. And since this is not the case, it is about time the "Texas Cowboy Sheriff" takes care of the business at hand while dispensing with the nonsense of further negotiations and "inspections."
Years from now, historians will judge President George W. Bush's speech of March 17, 2003, and today as an historically important moment in determining how the world's power structures will align in the future. Mr. Bush has finally played out the foolish game that the international community and American liberals seem happy to keep in perpetuity. Mr. Bush has finally put to rest, once and for all, the game of cat and mouse with a homicidal dictator.
Historians will judge President Bush as a great leader in a time of crisis. His integrity, strength, vision, focus and sheer determination to confront and rid the world of the cancer that is radical Islamist fundamentalism and its allies will be compared to Britain's wartime leader, Winston Churchill, as having a realistic understanding that tyrants must be confronted and conquered. President George W. Bush, like Churchill, understands peaceful nations that follow the rule of law cannot expect tyrants and totalitarian dictators like Saddam Hussein, let alone homicidal maniacs like Osama bin Laden, to work within the framework of international law. Bush understands that these fascist tyrants and murderers will never negotiate in good faith to achieve peace and justice. They only negotiate when it serves their purposes. In the case with Iraq, the purpose is to continue buying time to further develop weapons of mass destruction for use against those that oppose their agendas. To Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, the purpose is to acquire these types of weapons for an "Islamic Bomb," in order to bring about huge mass casualties to the innocent "infidels" of the West until all of the world can be brought into the sphere of "Del-ar-Islam." There is no way to negotiate with evil men that want nothing but your utter destruction in order to achieve a world subjugated under Islamic fascism and brutal tyranny. Of course, Old Europe, American liberals, and the celebrity types are not at all happy with Bush charting a course of confronting this evil and sticking to it. These lefty types want to return to the days of Bill Clinton's policy of governing by "finger-in-the-wind" polls.
It irks Democratic politicians, such as Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, that over 70 percent of all Americans are fully backing the President on Iraq and in general. Daschle, who lead his party to defeat at the polls last year, has demonstrated the lowest shameful act of ultimate hypocrisy by placing blame for war on the American President rather than Saddam Hussein and his willing collaborators at the United Nations. "I am saddened that this President failed so miserably at diplomacy in the crisis with Iraq that the United States now stands on the brink of war." Stated Daschle. "Saddened that we have to give up one life because this president couldn't create the kind of diplomatic effort that was so critical for our country." (1)
This is the same Tom Daschle who voted in Congress last November to support U.N. Resolution 1441, which promises Iraq "serious consequences" (i.e. war) if it does not comply with all the earlier U.N. Resolutions to disarm immediately. This is the same Tom Daschle who once said that any dissention with a sitting President in a time of crises should be considered shameful. Of course, he made that remark when Bill Clinton was the President, acting "unilaterally" against Iraq during Operation Desert Fox in 1998. And Daschle's "support" for Resolution 1441 came suspiciously close to the November general elections, when the House and Senate were up for grabs. The elections over and lost, Daschle now appears to be playing the role of disgruntled loser. Daschle happily and openly plays dissenting politics with Clinton's predecessor by issuing divisive remarks on the eve of full-scale war.
It seems Tom Daschle has either lost all touch with reality in not recognizing the 12 years of failed "diplomacy" with Iraq. Additionally, he does not seem to understand that Mr. Bush went the extra mile in granting Saddam, and the United Nations, one final chance to save face by complying with the U.N. mandate. Tom Daschle does not seem to understand that the French have been stonewalling every effort at true diplomacy by taking the teeth out of Resolution 1441. Daschle's stance is more in line with the French policy of appeasement and collaboration. The appeasement and collaboration policy could be defined as a new French, U.N. or liberal term for "diplomacy" in itself. Daschle appears to put partisanship and French foreign interests above that of his own country.
Finally, there are the self-indulgent, anti-Bush, anti-Republican, anti-Conservative, anti-Christian, and seemingly anti-American Hollywood types. Numerous "brilliant" scholars of foreign affairs and international policy seem to work as actors and musicians on the Left Coast. Headliner stars, such as Martin Sheen, an enlightened liberal college dropout who questions Bush's intelligence at every turn, seem to have developed a wisdom beyond the common man's realm in his mastery of all things political. Sheen, who plays a fictional Democratic President on TV, has it all figured out. We can win without war, it appears, and all it takes is good, old-fashioned liberal "reaching out to the root-cause" to have world peace. And of course, America is the "root-cause."
When Sheryl Crow shows up at a music awards shows with her intellectual message of "War is not the Answer" pasted on her t-shirt, you can feel the glow of wisdom perforating. In a December 13, 2002 open letter (2) to her fans, she went on a typical liberal rant against Bush, conservative, war, and America. She argued how it is our American policies and our global tyranny that are the cause of all the world's problems. Ms. Crow stated the 9/11 attacks were forewarned as U.S. policies are the reason for Old European and Arab contempt for America. She even questions how America's lack of focus on tire size are enabling the "Arab street" to the terrorists camps, as they view our consumerism as plundering their resources.
I wonder what the Jews living in the Warsaw Ghetto or the confines of Bergen-Belson would have thought 60 years ago if they could have seen Ms. Crow wearing that exact same shirt. It would be interesting to hear her defend her position to condemned victims of the Nazi. "Just give peace a chance. War is not the answer. Bad things happen to people in war. There is bad karma." Of course, her lofty arguments would sound nice, at least until the victims met their ends in the gas chambers because diplomats continue to "give peace a chance." This would have been totally absurd then, just as it is today
As for the most recent Michael Moore letter to the President dated the same day of Bush's ultimatum, there is not enough space in this column to detail the pure anti-American venom spewed forth by this sad liberal excuse of an American. Suffice it to say, it is written at the level of intelligence, or lack thereof, one would expect of Mr. Moore. It is posted at The Conservative Camp (3) website on the Liberal Lunatics page for your reading pleasure. I must warn that it makes for the most intelligent reading this side of academia!
I never fails to amaze me how these celebrity types can call President Bush a "dumb" man, especially since Mr. Bush is a graduate of Harvard and Yale, as well as a former National Guard fighter pilot. It takes intelligence to fly a jet fighter, let alone survive these two "elitist" universities. I doubt most of the artsy college dropouts we call "celebrities" could match up to the President in a game of Jeopardy, the Kindergarten Edition, let alone more pressing concerns.
The seriousness of the current situation requires a serious, focused leader. If George W. Bush is that proverbial "Cowboy Sheriff" from Texas going to a showdown at high noon with the villain to end the reign of terror, I will take that "Cowboy Sheriff" any day over the conniving, plotting, and collaborating U.N., Old Europe and liberal "law clerk" pouring over the books just to keep finding technicalities to let the villain off the hook with a slap on the wrist.
Tonight we are officially at war. Despite the pessimistic left's assessments, we will go forward as a nation liberating an oppressed population, not as an aggressor bent on world domination. Iraq will be the great cradle of civilization it once was, before a brutal tyrant clamped down on his own people and destroyed his once prosperous nation.
Fortunately for the Iraqi people and for those nations that value and love freedom and democracy, our great nation has been blessed with real and focused leadership in President George W. Bush. As a nation, let's pull together, unified, with one voice, and make clear our intentions to see that good will prevail. We must stand behind our President and our military with all our support to make sure that good prevails over evil.
At all times, and especially in this time of war, may God bless President George W. Bush, our brave and noble servicemen and women in our great military, and the United States of America , our allies, especially the British, and all the innocent Iraqi people imprisoned by Saddam that are desperate for freedom and dignity.
