No More False Advertising Laws In US
Its one thing for the media not do its job of keeping the public informed on what our government is up to. That can be written off to lack of time and resources, disinterest, lazinesss, or any of number of reasons. But when the major network and cable news programs take in millions of dollars in exchange for airing outright lies in political ads, that's going to far.
Bush's latest attack ad against Kerry is totally dishonest. Don't we have laws against false advertising anymore? Apparently not or Bush would be arrested. Here's the ad:
Bush: "I'm George W. Bush and I approved this message."
Narrator: "President Bush signed the Patriot Act giving law enforcement vital tools to fight terrorism."
"John Kerry? He voted for the Patriot Act."
"But pressured by fellow liberals, he's changed his position. While wire taps, subpoenas powers and surveillance are routinely used against drug dealers and organized crime, Kerry would now repeal the Patriot Act's use of these tools against terrorists."
Bush knows this ad is false and yet he says he approved it. Of course as we all know, Bush has never had a real job in his life, with the exception of public office, bought and paid for by rich cronies. He has no experience in any field except as a mascot for a ball team. Kerry on the other hand, is an experienced prosecutor who not only supported wiretaps, subpoena powers and surveillance, he used them to convict drug dealers and members of organized crime.
The truth is, Kerry will use those tools against terrorists, but he also wants to strengthen the Patriot Act in ways supported by Republican Senators Crap, Sununu, Murkowski, Craig and Spector. The ad says fellow liberals are pressuring Kerry. Like who, these republicans?
