'While You're Romancing the Keyboard, Who is Romancing You?'
Copyright © 2005 Hanne Andersen
Ahhhh yes, your hands are poised over the keys and the
thoughts begin to come alive as your fingers move across
the keyboard. They move as naturally as the next breath
from one to another, bringing forth your passions, dreams,
ideas and goals. In essence, you're 'romancing the keyboard'.
Giving life to those passions, making dreams become a
reality, ideas and goals can spring alive in this virtual life! Is this real? You bet it is! Just because we have changed the medium to express our desires, does not make them any less a reality. This is a wonderful 'virtual' means of expressing ourselves that we may not otherwise have been able to do before.
Being able to express yourself, does not always come easy to many and therein lies the gift of this new world of computer technology. Many are now able to show their talents to the world, whether it is writing, music, art, business advice or health knowledge. Information abounds on the internet, most given freely but ... also with a cost.
The cost is not always with a dollar value, but with a 'life' value. What do I mean a 'life' value? Let me ask you this, 'How much does a precious moment of seeing your child's first step cost?' Priceless, I would say. Or that first moment when the sun peeps over the horizon, showing the promise of a brand new day? How about the look on a friend's face when they see you amongst a crowd of people? These are moments that hold a 'life' value ... priceless moments of your time.
So, while you're 'romancing the keyboard, who's romancing
you?'
Taking time for yourself is so important, that's why we all wanted to work from home right? So that we can have less pressure, less stress, more time freedom, more money, more of this and more of that. Can you say with all honesty this is how 'rosey' your life is now?
What I really want to impress upon here is that each of us
needs to find that balance between life working at home,
with life. I've often heard or rather read, that 'I was just so busy on the computer trying to get things finished, but life got in the way...' sound familiar? I can see you smiling right now ... another gift of the computer, I'm SURE I can see you smiling!
Somewhere, somehow there needs to be a balance, and
each person needs to find their own. What works for one
person may not be work for the next. I've read so many
different ways of 'balancing your life', and I believe a big part of learning where this balance is for you, would be to keep informed. To never stop learning, for you may find that certain something that you can use. Some areas in our lives that we need to consider in finding 'balance' would be:
How to balance your time
How to balance your health
How about balancing your emotions
And even how to balance thinking and writing
all the time with just 'being'
Make the time ... set up a plan ... a time schedule ...
a feeding time... exercise ... friends ... family ... enjoy the outdoors, being inside for any length of time is not healthy. We all need fresh air, sunshine, and nature. We are natural animals after all!!
Take the time away, if it's not feasible to get outside ... ie children, have a spot in the house where you can go and just 'be' for awhile. 20 or 30 minutes a day every couple of hours is not much but in the long run will be well worth it. If you can, try meditation ... find that 'spot' within yourself and go for a vacation. The weather is always great at that spot!
So ... push yourself away from the desk for awhile and
start 'romancing YOU'!
