A Scentsy Review - Is This a Good Business Opportunity
by Randy Myers
If you want a creative business opportunity that you can operate from the comfort of your own home, then Scentsy may just be the right-smelling opportunity for you. In response to the intense focus in today's environment on home décor, Scentsy has responded with a large variety of wickless candles and warmers that appeal to the home shopper.
The Start of Scentsy
Scentsy was the brain child of Kara Egen and Colette Gunnell. Kara found inspiration from an episode of the Oprah show concerning home based businesses being operated by moms. A remark from Kara's sister-in-law, Colette, about how a lady in the neighborhood melted broken old candles in a potpourri burner ignited Kara's idea for a potential home based business by means of wickless candles.
The two women started selling their candles at fairs and trade shows, learning along the way. The warmer and tester set caught the eye of Orville Thompson, another entrepreneur at the Salt Lake City fair. He purchased it and sent it on home to his wife. He came home to find her having a great time using the products with her mom and sister, and the cozy image inspired the two of them to purchase the company from Kara and Colette, who stayed on as Scentsy Consultants. Orville and his wife then launched Scentsy as a Party Plan company. From there, the company continued to grow to become the business that it is today.
Products by Scentsy
Scentsy currently offers a variety of scented products, including various colored warmers to match the buyer's home color scheme and many different fragrances. Fragrances are sold in travel tins, as jarred candles, as room sprays, and the original bars and bricks. They are also divided into various fragrance collections, including Favorites, Bakery, Tropical, Seasonal, Spa, Scentsy Man, Romance, and Café - which allow shoppers to find the perfect scents for their home.
The Scentsy Business Model
Self made business people, with or without experience, can become involved in the Direct Selling industry via Scentsy. Along with a generous compensation plan for leadership, Scentsy Independent Consultants receive free shipping on certain orders and are given credit card services without fees. You will work as an independent contractor, not an employee of the Scentsy Company. This means you are your own boss choosing when and where to work and you have full control over how successful you will be. This model provides an excellent opportunity whether you want a career in sales or you just want to make a little extra money.
And to top it off, you do not need sales experience to become a Scentsy Independent Consultant. Selling Scentsy candles and warmers is more about building relationships with people. It's easy to sell Scentsy at a party you host.
You can get started by calling your Scentsy Consultant or visiting her website. Demo products, testers and business supplies are included in your $99 starter kit.
The person who sponsors you will help you get started and get the most from the training and support the company offers. You will have an online workstation on your own website which is provided to you for free for the first three months. After the first three months, you can continue to keep your website up and running for only $10 per month. Other benefits are the accessibility of your Sponsor and all your upline, access to online training tools and Scentsy online forums.
To remain in active status, you are required to place orders for a minimum of $150 of merchandise every three months. If you are certain being a Scentsy consultant is not for you, you can leave the company with no cancellation penalties at any time.
Scentsy has many business owners smelling the sweetness of success, and you may just be next!
