Flintstone vs Jetson - Which Network Marketer Are You?
by Bob Howard
A friend of mine, Larry Beacham, wrote a commentary by a similar name a few months back and it was such a hit article and he communicated such good ideas in it that I wanted to revisit much of it again. So with his permission I am writing this follow up to his creative article.
We are in the Information Age not the Stone Age! What worked in the past does not work that same way in our fast society
It is important to understand that the days of cold calling strangers and chasing them down or pursuing the unqualified friends and family members just does not work anymore. This is what most companies teach their marketers to do. It is how 98% of all network marketers do it today. As Larry said it "Yet, millions of network marketers are stuck in the past, using Fred Flintstone techniques to try and lure the George Jetson prospect". This is a great statement. Now does this mean the old school techniques do not work. No it does not and it is how most networks marketers build their organizations.
Todays tools can make is much easier if you know how. Today's consumer has much less patience and their life is much more fast paced and they are looking for a better way. Many of the network marketers in the present day that have been successful are using the Internet to aid in their marketing efforts.
There is contracts in the old school and new school techniques that is illustrated with Fred and George.
FLINTSTONE: Uses things like a prospect list or names list and acts like an amateur marketer calling everyone they know to find a handful of people that may be interested in their business, or NOT.
JETSON: Attracts a very targeted list of people to them using blogs, web sites and email.
CONTRAST: It is so important to understand that the marketer is selling himself not the business opportunity. People do transactions with people, not with computers or companies. The consumer is building a repport with the marketer as the marketer sells himself. This is ATTRACTION MARKETING.
FLINTSTONE: Invites non-qualified prospects to attend meetings on the other side of the city and then tries to force the business on them. Then he tries to figure out why people do not join.
JETSON; Creates pre-recorded wibinars and teleconferences for prospects that are already interested.
CONTRAST: Recordings can be listened to or watched 24 hours a day 7 days a week when the prospect has the time to review the information in the comfort of their home or office. This allows the marketer to leverage their time and they only talk to the prospect after they have had time to review and absorb the information and there is a GENUINE INTEREST.
FLINTSTONE: Has a salesman's mentality and tries to convince or strong arm the prospect and their objections.
JETSON: Is and independent thinker and consultant that provides value that the marketplace recognizes.
CONTRAST: By giving value, educating, providing comfort, confidence and trust the prospect is interested in the information being shared.
FLINTSTONE: Doesn't think in terms of long term relationship building with a prospect; wants to sell the product or enroll them immediately and if it does not happen is dismissed with no follow up strategy.
JETSON: Understands the power of selling through education and using automatic communications to continue the education beyond the initial contact.
CONTRAST: Understands that everyone has their own time and that they are in it for the long haul so right now is less important to the prospect. This may be a relationship that will take years to develop and as people go through seasons of their lives they may get involved.
FLINTSTONE: Often uses a facade to catch peoples attentions just so they can do a business presentation.
JETSON: Recognizes that the prospect needs to be interested first and then builds rapport with them through educational videos, blogging or articles.
CONTRAST: Being a trusted advisor to the prospect will make them more receptive. When the prospect is ready they will contact the marketer. This approach will increase the odds that the prospect will succeed when they do finally join because they are ready and more fully understand the business.
What a vast contrast there is between the Fred Flintstone and George Jetson marketer. Change the way you market and do things the modern ways. The bottom line is the new marketing techniques allow you to operate in a much more professional way and reach many more people. This will allow you to sift through thousands of prospects and find the diamonds that can change your business for the positive.
