Team Building
by Kent Pinkerton
Team building programs are an emerging phenomenon in the modern organizational setup, either at the department level or company level. Team building is a pre-planned activity carried out within an organization and involving a group of people who share the objectives of boosting the communication skills of workers and improving the work atmosphere. Long-term team building tends to be most effective for organizational and personal development.
Team building helps top-level executives to recognize the working styles of different individuals and the differences among them. It helps co-workers to work together towards common goals by designing and delivering motivational events and team development programs. Team Building can help people learn new ways to interact positively with different clients, which helps the business overall.
Team building is not merely a means by which the motivation of the employees is enhanced, it also aids the overall productivity and efficiency at the workplace and bonds organization members together both horizontally and vertically. Many firms have integrated team building strategies into their basic training program.
While engaging in team building programs, official positions are set apart and team members are offered the wonderful opportunity of revealing their true human nature. A clear-cut idea of the mission and objectives of the organization can be conveyed to the workers through such programs. With this aim in mind, in a team-oriented environment, employees contribute to the overall success of the organization by cooperating with fellow team members to achieve the desired results.
Team building can be put into effect by team leaders, supervisors, managers, trainers and coaches. It is appropriate for all organizations, regardless of the size or nature of the organization. The root causes of poor team performance can be traced and necessary steps implemented to rectify them to accomplish positive group solutions.
