The Power of Focus

Short article about how we focus our minds.

When I was a child, I played outside by watching bugs
in the dirt or crawl on the leaves. My two younger
sisters and I enjoyed this simple pleasure so much.
We also played with a magnifying glass that came out
of the Cracker Jack box. We put a leaf on the ground
and we would hold the magnifying glass over the leaf
allowing the sunlight to show through until we saw
smoke on the surface of the leaf. On our more
adventurous and mischievous days we used the
magnifying glass on paper and we watched it until it
burned the paper. As long as the rays of the sun are
scattered into the atmosphere they warm the
atmosphere, our city, our backyard. But when the rays
are channeled through a focus - a small piece of
glass, it can create a fire.

And so it is with our perspective. When we focus our
attention on negative things in this life, it seems as
if all the people are evil, the world is unsafe, and
you cannot trust anyone and a myriad of other
negatives seem absolute truths; but when our attention
is turned to whatever things are true, whatever things
are noble, whatever things are right, whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable then
our existence is full of all of the above.

In light of this, think on these things.
