Success - how would you define it??
To be successful in your work and your life, it is really important to think about what success actually means to you - not to what is expected of you by those close to you. One of the steps to help you do this is to think about your values and your life purpose. We have values and a life purpose, whether we are aware of exactly what they are or not. When we live our life aligned with our values, we fulfill one of our highest needs; for our life to have meaning. When we are not living in alignment with our values, we eventually become bored, numb, or depressed. To experience fulfillment in our life, we must choose in alignment with our Values and Life Purpose.
Consider this - what are your values? What is important to you?
To help you work out what your life purpose is, a good place to start is to think about what would you want your family and friends to say about you when they toast you on your 80th birthday? Have each significant person in your life say how they appreciate you, what you have meant to them, how you have been important to them, why they love and respect you. Assume you have been living your perfect life for many years.
Once you have identified your definition of success, identified your values and have created your life purpose, it is time to think about your strategy for achieving this. What are some goals you can create around achieving success? What are some actions you can take tomorrow, next week to get closer to where you want to be?
TIP OF THE DAY - Write a list of all your activities in a typical week, including how much time you spend on: family, spouse, work, fun, creativity, career, friends, community, self care, tasks/chores, personal development, computer stuff, training and stupid stuff.
My challenge for you: look at the percentage of time you currently spend on these areas above and the compare with your priorities. How do they match up?
My stretch challenge: Ask yourself some tough questions like am I really achieving something or just keeping busy?
Final thoughts: ""A lot of successful people are risk-takers. Unless you're willing to do that. to have a go, fail miserably and have another go, success won't happen."
