Women who had breast cancer can improve their life quality by doing fitness, according to the International Journal of Sports Medicine. Women who were recovering after breast cancer treatment and who have participated in a supervised aerobic and strength training program for eight weeks have showed an improvement in their physical fitness and life quality.
Women may not have to exercise as much as they exercised during the training after it ends, and still stay fit, according to the study.
The study showed that women who performed aerobic and resistance training showed improvements in strength and muscle function, life quality and cardiorespiratory fitness.
The benefits of this training program appeared after the subsequent period of eight weeks without training, said Dr. Alejandro Lucia, who was involved in the study.
However, cardiorespiratory fitness gains were lost quite fast during the "detraining" period, according to the researchers.
Formal exercise programming can help even if the training is retained, demonstrated Dr. Alejandro Lucia and her colleagues.
